At Learned Lawyer, we believe in providing peace of mind to our clients. Usually, we do this through estate planning and probate services. But we also believe in giving back to our community.
Scott Learned, the owner and attorney at Learned Lawyer, regularly provides free or low-cost legal services. He volunteers to represent children who have been removed from their parents and are in foster care during child protection cases. He also provides advice and services to non-profit organizations such as the Rotary Club of Boise. Jynx Jenkins, the firm's paralegal, volunteers her time and comedic talents performing as a comic at benefit events.
One of our pro bono services was recently featured by a group called Compassionate Boise. We provide at-cost name changes to transgender people, to help them as they transition. We were moved to perform this work when we learned of the major challenges facing transgender people every day, like finding discrimination-free work or housing, coping with bullying and harassment, and in some cases even violence. We decided that we can provide peace of mind to Idaho's transgender community by helping them navigate the sometimes daunting judicial system to do something that most people take for granted - have a legal name that matches their own identity.
